Hello March...

It's been awhile, but not much has changed.

Got a few full-time possibilities on the horizon and made a few new contacts so I'll let you know when/if anything develops there.

Also going along with one of Pat's recent realizations, I've started organizing any business cards or contact info I've accumulated ...it's that whole 'growing up' thing, i guess. So if anyone has any business cards they want to send me for my 'file' - let me know! LOL

So that's about it for now. Back to work!

SAB - SUCCESS!

Well guys, the 96.1 Kiss Stuff a Bus year 3 was a huge success. Kiss Listeners stuffed 13 busses full of toys for toys for tots, and all those toys go to families in need right here in the Pittsburgh area. Way to go.
Here are some pics of me from the Broadcast. Oh and one of Rech, in case you miss him too!

I'm on the radio...

Well Rech and I planned out a "picture day" so we could post updated pictures from our fun Kiss DJ jobs but he ditched me. And I was in a hurry to get to the Pens game so I didn't wait around for him. But I did manage to take some "myspace style" pics of myself. So that's what you get, for now! Enjoy!

Nothing new

Yep, a post to tell you that nothing is new with me! So enjoy it!
I'm still working four, yes count them four part time jobs.
as a matter of fact, im working two of the four today. and i often work 7 days a week, with multiple days involving 2 jobs in one day. so i work like, 8 or 10 days a week. yep do the math on that one!

In any case. This is me!
And I keep meaning to take new pics at Kiss but I also keep forgetting to do so. But if i ever do, I'll try to post them here. Oh, I put up a new slideshow on my Kiss DJ page, check it out. very fun.

That's all for now!

Movin' On Up...

Well things might be looking up for me now, in a complicated sort of way.

Starting Monday I will be working in the "news department" of FM NewsTalk, basically coordinating Pittsburgh news with my old friends at WTAM in Cleveland. It should be fun, and I will need a refresher getting back into the news swing of things haha, and also hooray for a part time job with actually close to 25 hours a week. Unfortunately the hours aren't great for working my mall job into the mix, smack in the middle of the day with the added fun of fighting rush hour home from Green Tree to Monroeville, but I should be able to work out something with SGH, at least working Sundays, to keep that all important income going. Plus I will still be a weekender at Kiss. If need be then I can find a waitress job or something thats open later at night so i can start later (after i've sat in rush hour traffic for an hour or two....)

So, that's what's new with me!

Hola.

It's weird that I'm having trouble finding a third job that will fit into my schedule, but at the same time on my days off I just sit around here and I'm so freaking bored! it makes me feel so lazy, and i wish i could do something fun or at least excersiz-y but there really isn't anything for me to do alone. That gym I was thinking about joining is just way too expensive. And I hate sitting around bored!
Meanwhile, I wish I could just get decent hours at my other two jobs and then I wouldn't have to worry about a third job, but I guess that's just too easy to work for me :oP

Joy called me today because David Lee Roth was booted from the morning shows he had taken over from Howard Stern...and now there's openings. One of the stations by her is doing a contest where the listeners will vote for who they like best to take over the morning show, so she's sending in a resume tape of Joy and Laura, the "buckeye babes" from good ol' Titan Radio. We'll see what happens with that!

In the meantime... I need friends! and of course cash donations are always accepted. for that matter, so are checks. ^_^

My New *New* Car!

It's an '06 Scion tC , flint mica (dark dark gray with purple and green sparkles (metallic paint) in the sun)

(not sure why that last picture won't get any smaller....)
the whole roof is glass...its all a sunroof so even the backseat can see the sky ^_^ but only the front opens as a sunroof/moonroof. the back seats can recline so you enjoy the view... or they fold down for extra storage space. the cd player hides. the rims are pretty cool. i forget what else. it's a pretty sweet car. be jealous. ^_^

now i need a third job...

New Car?

It's exciting but it's also not.

See, the truck keeps dying and causing me all kinds of stress. So I've decided it's time for a new vehicle. The problem here being ..... I can't even pay the bills I have as it is! how am i supposed to add a car payment to that?!

Well ya gotta do what ya gotta do. So I'm looking to add a third job to my schedule. And I think I've narrowed down my options (I'm very price restricted...) to a Jeep Liberty sport or a Scion tC.

In other news, I've been tryin to get ahold of Bowers to check out this whole assignment editor thing, but she never gets back to me *mock angry face* other than that, no new BC jobs on the radar for me, and I've decided that I'm living below the poverty line due to my current amount of debt. Fun!

the green month 'o march

doubly so! Hurray for some of the spring weather that I have been enjoying, hopefully it settles down and stays warm soon.

Also, it's time for the St. Patrick's Day Parade!!! Apparently this is a big deal in Pittsburgh. And guess what, I'll be in it, walkin along with all my Kiss buddies! *except Rech, he has a remote in the middle of the parade time, bummer. and fraggle, cuz he's live on kiss from noon to 5*

Anyway, assuming I don't get lost trying to find my spot before the parade (oy hate driving in cities!) if you are there you should see me! and i may be wandering around lost and lonely after the parade, if I can't find a ride back to the station. haha. So, this Saturday, the 11th! Something like 10 am to 2 pm! downtown! and a Kiss afterparty at Shootz, yay green beer.

Anyway, "Everyone Loves an Irish Girl" <-- that's me! ^_^

Hot girl check in!

whoa the freak show is starting to rub off on me a little bit...

First things first, Julie updated her blog! It doesn't say much, but the point is she's still alive! I was starting to wonder....

Anywho not much is new with me, but I'll give you the run down just for the heck of it.

I'm trying to figure out a way to excersize more, but I can't afford a gym. I really miss the Marge, haha.

So weekends I work at Kiss (barely) and two days or so a week at the mall. It's interesting trying to pick up all the things I have to learn at Sunglass Hut when I'm working by myself. Talk about self-taught!

Also I have to keep tabs on Marshall once he gets into the city to see what's going on at KDKA radio and if there's a chance I can work my way into that. That means I have to brush up on my newswriting skills! Also I think that if I move to KDKA they might be union, and I probly wouldn't be able to keep my DJ job at Kiss, which is a bummer because I like doing both. But we'll see what happens.

Also, did I mention Scotty is gone? Supposedly he's going to have some sort of nationally syndicated show...move over Carson! But scotty is much meaner. haha. That will be interesting to watch for as well.

Thats about it.

Oh yeah, and Pittsburgh's going to the SUPER BOWL! Here we go!

This town is pretty crazy about their football team!

"New" in the New Year

Well, where to start.

Still working at kiss, but I'm bummed because all those weekend "lives" I was promised turned into voicetracks. We'll see how that continues...

In other radio news, the news director I interned with in Charlotte, NC is now the News Director at KDKA. I've been keeping in touch with him, and he said he wants to try to get me into KDKA somehow. We'll see how that goes, as well.

Meanwhile, I just got hired at the Sunglass Hut at the mall. I'm pumped because they have part time health insurance, and I'll be making 7 an hour plus commission. Also once a year I get a free pair of glasses, sun or prescription. (Luxotica owns Sunglass Hut, PearleVision, LensCrafters, Sears Optical, Target Optical, etc).

So....who knows.

Almost 2006

I still can't believe it was just Christmas, it still feels like Halloween was yesterday.

Sorry I haven't been around to update much. Found out my part time job at the mall is kaput because the kiosk/whole company is closing. At the end of the month. Yikes. So the guy at the next kiosk, the Sunglass Hut, said he'd hire me. Sweet.

In real news, I applied to a few jobs but so far, not much has happened there. I have to follow up on a few of them this week. But at Kiss my new boss told me he wants to get me on air Live more on the weekend days, which is TOTALLY fine by me! Haha so we'll see how things go there.

And in other real/good news, I'm pretty sure my loan deferment was approved! Yay for being poor with another 6 mths to delay paying back my school loans!

On New Years Eve Brian and I will celebrate our 2 year anniversary, so that's fun stuff too.

Anyway gotta run, finally get a night to hang out with friends and kick back, so that's what I plan on doing! Later!

Coming Home (a week late)

Well it's been a hectic tiring week, plus I'm sick, so I apologize for the delay in this post.

Homecoming was last weekend. I was actually rather disappointed that I didn't get to see a lot of the alumni I was looking forward to seeing. (No Weaver, I never saw Bowers if she did come). Most exciting was talking with Sebas, who flew in 'specially for the occasion. Sarah was there too, and Amy. Tandi sent me a message on facebook about her new job in Macon, Georgia?! Who knew! I heard Ian was around but didn't get to see him. And of course we all missed Pat, tear! Forgive me if I forget someone, but this cold has my head all stuffed up, which makes thinking rather difficult.

I am so glad September is over - $2000 in truck repairs made me an angry person. Sept. was not a happy month.

The fun thing at homecoming was having lots of people coming up to me and telling me they heard me on the radio. It was fun. However, a lot of people were surprised. That made me think, because I know we always used to talk about how people didn't take BC Majors seriously at WC and we tried to turn that around because we do more work on a daily basis than most majors on campus! So I was like, what, you didn't expect me to get a job in the field I paid $80,000 to study? Geez!

But still, a positive weekend. I wish I had gotten to see more people!

Hurricane Relief Efforts...

...since this seems to be a huge topic of discussion lately (as it should be) I figured I'd post my info as well...

The day of my car wreck *yay* my station held a relief effort ... "96.1 Kiss for Rent". Basically, listeners pledged money to hear songs or to get things like for Scotty to talk like Bonics, or for the Freak Show to sing the "banana phone" song...the whole crew even had to sing the theme song for golden girls!

Carson Daly called in a $1000 donation for Mikey and Big Bob (Morning Freak Show) to kiss, and you can find video of that and other highlights of the day here.

We raised over $43,000.00 that day.

I know DVE and 3WS did their fundraisers in the next few days, and they raised around $30,000 each.

So, the money is coming, slowly but surely. Plus I was amused to see that schools like Westminster and Kent State are opening their classrooms to victims of the Hurricane so that their education can continue at no cost to them during the crisis.

More to come...

Out on the Town

I would've posted earlier but I needed some time to recover. I got back Tuesday from my "vacation" to Sunset Beach, N.C., and headed to work. That's right.

But it wasn't for "work."

Thanks to getting top ratings, the staff of 96.1 Kiss headed out for a night on the town...on CC's tab. Hehe.

First the really long stretch limo took the beer guzzling lot of us to Pittsburgh Steak Company, where everyone ate and DRANK their $42 allotment away. (I did not drink beer tho, cuz I don't like it, but there was whiskey and vodka in the limo, and plenty of amaretto sours in the restaurant. ^_^). Then we loaded (and were loaded) into the limo again, and headed to PNC Park. We had guest passes to the club level, and spent the rest of the night at the first base line bar (although I ventured to watch some of the game out on the balcony type area thinger). We lost Rech at one point though.....his drunken self wandered away trying to find our *actual* seats and some hot girls. He found his way back though. haha.

All in all, it was a pretty fun night. They went out more after that cuz everyone was off until noon, except me, I had to get up at 4:30 am to come in and run the board for the Morning Freak Show so they could sleep off their drunken stuper. Grr. Haha. Yay for BC bonding. Plus, Craig and I can't wait til the BC Picnic on Sept 24!

Sebastian lives. And works!

haha. Sebas says his blog is "dead" so as the president of capstone class I have copied details from our conversation about his new job to post for your reading pleasure.

He is now in Dalton, Georgia, working as a sports reporter at WDNN-TV. (No website available yet, but he says maybe in a month or two it should be up). They put him up in a hotel for two weeks while he looks for a place, which is pretty cool. He says is salary is about $15,000 a year (about $250 a week after taxes) which I told him was a pretty decent start, since I'm still waaaaay under that with my $80 a week on a good week. lol.

He found the opening on TVJOBS.COM, and after seeing his tape the guy basically called him up and said 'its yours if you want it, let me know your decision in the next 24 hours.' Pretty sweet! Sebas says things are okay so far but it's hard to tell after only a week. "But it's no WCN!"

So that's whats new with Sebas. Have a good one!

I'm a DJ

Yep I'm a "weekend DJ" on Kiss. I had my first live shifts yesterday and today.

Amy Dalbon called me and said I sounded awesome, thanks amy love you ! and Linz too!

It was a little scary (it would have been bad to slip up and say "titan radio" hahaha!) but I think I sounded pretty good. I brought up "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" at one point to see if people liked it, and man did the phones ring off the hook! Too bad our machine isn't working right so I couldn't really try to get any on the air. Maybe next time...

So that was my bright spot, to make up for the fact that our machines have been messed up and Club Kiss made my life hell (friday, saturday and sunday nights, blah!)

'til next time....

kqv

wahoo i navigated my way thru the heart of pgh and didn't even come close to getting lost! I faced the evils of a parking garage and crossing a busy street, finding a station in a huge building, and passing an "interview" that wasnt really an interview! What a day! and all before noon!

As you can possibly tell, I had my meeting with Frank at KQV yesterday. It was interesting, and sort of a test, which was interesting considering I'm a little out of practice. We talked awhile, then he gave me some press releases and articles to write up a few readers. Then he had me "produce" the newscast and record it. On a TAPE! Can you believe they still use tapes and carts? Wow. He said they have cool edit but they are very slowly taking baby steps toward becoming digital. That was crazy.

Basically he told me I'm a little young and I need to know more about "business" and "politics" and such. Eh, that's okay. He's keeping my stuff on file, said they haven't hired anyone new in about 3 years (they have a low turnover rate, that's good). They do long format newscasts, like half an hour at a time, which I'm not sure I could get into anyway. But they do have "writers" and "editors" which would be a great place to start in the news world.
